Remote Areas of Drought-Afflicted Ethiopia
In partnership with AWASSA Water is Life, an NGO operating in Ethiopia,
two Mobile MaxPure® units were commissioned to be installed in remote,
drought-ridden areas of the country to provide relief to the residents
of those areas. By providing a means of pumping and purifying
water the residents no longer had to undergo long journeys in an attempt
to find clean water for consumption.
With a limited budget, Water is Life wanted to ensure that their selection
would provide potable water to a large group of people at a good return
on investment. Additionally, they needed a technological solution that
was rugged and easy to use. The MMP provided all of that and more!
MMP can provide potable water from polluted freshwater sources for less
than one penny per gallon in the first year, with costs decreasing
even further in the following year after capital expenditures have been
accounted for. The units are specifically designed to operate in harsh
environments and are self-contained systems that are easy to operate
and maintain.
WorldWater & Solar Technologies staff worked closely with Water
is Life to order and supply accessories for the MMP that are most fitting
for the needs of Ethiopia’s residents, to provide guidance on site selection
and testing of potential wells at various sites, to coordinate shipping
of the units and to provide installation/maintenance training to people
at the sites.
