U.S. Marines Provincial Reconstruction Team
Euphrates River, Iraq
In
addition to the damage caused by the war in Iraq, people along the Euphrates
River lived a life exposed to water-borne illness when gathering water
from the River. In 2008 the US Military’s Provincial Reconstruction Team
(PRT) identified the Mobile MaxPure® as a solution to the endemic lack
of power and potable water in the area.
A dozen Mobile MaxPure® (MMP) units were shipped to Iraq and installed
along the Euphrates River by the PRT. All of the units were constructed
to match local voltage and power requirements to sync with products and
electrical systems used in Iraq. The PRC worked with local leaders in
villages along the River, transferring the MMP to their care after providing
operation and maintenance training as well as a year’s worth of consumable
filters. Additional consumable parts are available from WorldWater & Solar
Technologies, Inc. Each unit is now using solar power to provide locals
with a sustainable and reliable source of power and potable water.
In
response to the enormous positive effect the MMP had on Iraqis, the US
Embassy in Baghdad wrote an article explaining how the MMP has helped to significantly reduce the number
of water-borne illness cases in local hospitals within a few short weeks
of being installed.
With appreciation for the ease of operation, rugged construction, and
low-cost provision of power and water- without the added logistical concern
of providing fuel- that the Mobile MaxPure® provides, the US Army submitted
an order for an additional 25 MMP units in 2009.
