Upcoming Projects
A selection of anticipated upcoming projects:
Tsunami-affected Villages, Sri Lanka
The Tsunami of 2003 helped to bring the water crisis into sharper focus
around the world. A few years after the Tsunami the Government of Sri
Lanka approached WorldWater & Solar Technologies Chairman and CEO to
discuss the use of solar-powered generators and water purification systems
to bring clean water and energy to villagers in fishing villages along
the Eastern coast of Sri Lanka.
Studies found that the groundwater resources in these areas had been
contaminated by the Tsunami, and in some areas additional contaminants
were polluting the water. A series of well-yield studies were also performed
with assistance from WorldWater and information is being gathered on
a potential 90 villages. The expected scope of the project includes deploying
90 MaxPure® units, each producing an average of 30,000 gallons of potable
water daily, as well as 18000 solar-powered home electricity kits to
households in each of the selected villages. It is expected that this
project will bring clean water and power to over 90,000 people who had,
previously, lacked home energy and clean water.
Humanitarian Relief, Somalia
Somalia’s infrastructure has suffered greatly from the decades of conflict
and violence in the country. Leaders have tried in vain to bring social
service and basic needs to residents and displaced individuals all over
Somalia.
In 2009 WorldWater & Solar Technologies was approached by the leadership
of Somalia’s transitional government to bring a solar-powered solution
to the Country to provide energy and clean water to thousands of Somalis.
With an initial focus on bringing potable water to thousands of displaced
people, WorldWater is working with the Somali Government to identify
sites with sufficient well yield, rehabilitate the boreholes and install
Mobile MaxPure® units in and around Mogadishu as well as in rural areas
in the Southern portions of the Country.
Agricultural Irrigation, Afghanistan
After
learning about and placing orders for the Mobile MaxPure® products offered
by WorldWater and Solar Technologies, Inc. (WW), the US Army and WW began
to discuss other solutions the Mobile Max line of products could provide.
The border areas of Afghanistan have a great need for water to grow
food crops for the population. WW’s proprietary technology can leverage
the energy collected from the sun to pump water; a very energy-heavy
activity. By using a solar-powered water pumping solution, the Afghan
farmers will not have to spend their precious resources on purchasing
and moving fuel. With the Mobile Max, once the unit has been paid for
there are no additional costs associated with operating the unit! Not
only will the Mobile Max help the farmers to irrigate their fields, but
will do so in the most cost efficient way possible.
The Mobile Max can be up and running in less than 30 minutes from arriving
on site, and because it is designed directly on to a trailer it can be
moved easily from one location to another, providing yet another cost
savings to the agricultural professional.
