03 Mar Peñuelas – Puerto Rico
From late December leading into the new year Puerto Rico, mainly the southwest part of the island was hit with a series of earthquakes. The earthquake magnitude ranged from 5 and above with the largest reaching 6.4. Continuous aftershocks and tremors continued for weeks delaying restoration to homes that were damaged and causing many locals in Ponce, Peñuelas, Guayanilla, Guánica, Adjuntas, Lajas, etc. to seek encampments that were set up through the National Guard.

YAUCO – The town of Yauco was hit hard from the earthquakes, making matters worse a portion of the town is elevated extremely high, over 3,000 feet up in the mountains. The water quality in most remote areas has been compromised since Hurricane Maria. WorldWater & Solar Technologies was able to deploy a SHEPS ™ unit to a coffee farm where at least 5-10 families live near and can retrieve potable water.

Following the major earthquake in early January, power to a vast majority of the island was down resulting in further water contamination. Rock and landslides occurred as well damaging roads, highways and bridges. Working with the Los Padres Foundation, WorldWater & Solar Technologies deployed two of their Mobile MaxPure™ units at a encampment center in Peñuelas offering water and power to locals.
